Trek 2014

Trenton got home today from our church's summer youth conference.  Every four years the youth conference is a three day pioneer reenactment, and this happened to be the year for it!  There were 140 youth divided into ten families, each assigned a "ma and pa."  Everyone dresses in traditional pioneer clothing and lives as close to pioneer life as they can for three days.

 This was a fun part of the experience - a county fair.  They just finished making taffy.

Taking a break was a wonderful treat after all of their hard work earlier in the day.

 That's a lot of ovens!  Each family had two ovens to cook their meals in.

 This is what the trails looked like for most of the way, although they were much worse in many spots.  Trenton said one mud hole was knee deep.  His shoes and clothes were completely ruined after trekking through that much mud for three days.

There was some time for fun...Trenton is the one taking off running.

 I was in charge of making scones at the county fair.  We had to keep these ovens hot for four hours straight which was a bit challenging, but I was so grateful to be a part of the experience.  It was a great blessing to be able to check in on Trenton half way through Trek.  I felt kind of guilty leaving after the fair was over in my air conditioned car.
