Camping Guests

We gave it our best effort to turn Nick and Callie into campers during their visit to Ohio a couple of weeks ago.  We had some great adventures with them, but I am not sure they would call themselves campers just yet...
Early in our camping adventure, we captured an innocent mama painted turtle just after she buried her eggs in the ground.  It's okay because Nathan says turtles abandon their babies anyway.  Hopefully it's true, but mama turtle didn't seem too pleased with us for capturing her.  I had been wanting to find a baby turtle for us to keep in an aquarium for the summer, and Ashleigh thought she had found me a turtle when she discovered this one burying her eggs along one of the golf cart trails.  Mama turtle was a little too big for a pet, but Ashleigh wanted to capture her anyway.  Guess who had to do the capturing though when we got a good glimpse of mama turtle's claws...

Owen was the only kiddo brave enough to hold mama turtle.  She was not a happy camper until she was reunited with the water a short while later.

 The happy reunion!

Mama turtle's painted shell was pretty cool, but her claws were not so cool.

Audrey and Dallin were quite the cute little pair.  We had a "Cheetos and Doritos" eating competition and they both gave it a hefty try eating almost a half bag each.

Popsicles are our camping staple.  We purchase them by the caseload at Sam's Club each summer and have already devoured two cases of them while camping this year.

Trenton is our designated fire starter and trail maker.  He has cut three trails for us to walk in the woods behind our camper and is starting on a fourth.

Nathan rocked it with his corn hole skills.  I was glad he finally found someone willing to play with him :)

 It's Cheetos vs...

 Doritos!

 Sweet sisters!

Evening paddle boat cruise in our incredibly dirty boat.  Miss E is hiding behind her daddy.

We chased after Ms. Skunk all evening trying to get a good look at her and our diligence paid off, but there was no sign of her babies which are rumored to live next door to us.
